The V&A is one of my most favorite museums. The exhibit which opens September 22nd, examines the height of couture's influence, starting with Christian Dior's legendary 1947 New Look show and running through the designers death in 1957. In addition to pieces by Dior, the show features designs by Parisians such as Cristobal Balenciaga, Hubert de Givenchy and Pierre Balmain and Londoners such as Hardy Amies and Norman Hartnell. Most of the pieces are from the V&A's archives.
Because the exhibit is being mounted to coincide with the 60th Anniversary of the New Look, it will also feature several New Look-inspired designs from John Galliano's fall 2005 Dior couture collection.
