‘Perfume is dead! Long live perfume!’ This new shrine to scent is its own kingdom. Nathalie Feisthauer, Antoine Lie, Antoine MaisonDieu (grandson of Camus and trained as a ‘nose’ by Jacques Chaubert, inventor of Chanel’s Cristalle) have launched an unusual collection of subversive signature scents for a new world order: ‘Secretions Magnifiques’, ‘Putain des Palaces’, ‘Jasmin et Cigarette’…. Each perfume has a quirky story attached, and although scents of bodily fluids, say, may not seem immediately attractive, the fragrances are definite growers. Despite the boutique’s rather ordinary mod-esque typography/ décor, the concept and scents are original and interesting. Fragrance dispersers are lined up along the rue des Archives for public appraisal. Inside, the boutique is tiny, black and minimal; a calm post-modern boudoir.
