Fabian Baron

The inimitable creative director is showing for the first time in Paris. After stints as DA of Italian Vogue, Interview, Harper’s Bazaar, Baron is now art director of French Vogue. And when not art directing some of the world’s top fashion houses – Balenciaga, Burberry and Calvin Klein to name a few – or designing furniture for Capellini, Baron is also an accomplished artist. His drawings are graphic and stylish; seek out a selection of his personal work at Colette until 30 Dec. To mark the event, Baron has produced a limited edition of three candles with the master perfumer Alberto Morillas, the nose behind iconic scent CK One. As is to be expected, the packaging is slick and the heady scent will no doubt permeate every fashionable establishment worthy of casa Vogue.
Climate T-shirts at Colette

If you haven’t had your fill of celebrity endorsed, signed or designed goods then get your purse out as they’ve done it again… en masse! Individually designed and signed t-shirts by the likes of Helena Christensen, Marc Jacobs, Jade Jagger and of course Kate Moss (who squiggled some stars and an original ‘kate woz here’ on hers), are on sale at Colette with all net profits to go to Al Gore’s Climate Project. Made in collaboration with exclusive UK fashion label Buddhist Punk, each design is part of a limited edition of 500
Tom Ford ad by Terry Richardson

Tom Ford’s Midas touch continues into the world of perfumes with the launch of his first – aggressively heterosexual – perfume for men, with zesty notes of Tunisian orange, black pepper, tobacco, and Moroccan grapefruit. The bottle resembles the one Ford created for his best-selling women’s scent, Black Orchid. Adding to the buzz of this new launch is the provocative photo campaign shot by Terry Richardson. Visitors to the website must click past a 'sexually explicit' warning before viewing the campaign, which flashes porno-chic images of a naked woman toying with the iconic bottle.
CREED
This venerable, family-owned parfumerie has been crafting scents since 1760. A staunch traditionalist, Master Perfumer Olivier Creed selects the natural ingredients which are then hand mixed, macerated then filtered using a time-honoured infusion technique that has been abandoned by industrial manufacturers. Their handsomely packaged eaux de toilettes come in refined interpretations of classic unisex aromas: Juniper Berry, Royal English Leather, Mandarin Grapefruit Zest, Imperial Sandalwood and the like. One of the most popular perfumes is Green Irish Tweed, a manly mixture of violet, verbena, and iris. Their range of toiletries, candles and scented oils make excellent cadeaux.

ETAT LIBRE D'ORANGE
‘Perfume is dead! Long live perfume!’ This new shrine to scent is its own kingdom. Nathalie Feisthauer, Antoine Lie, Antoine MaisonDieu (grandson of Camus and trained as a ‘nose’ by Jacques Chaubert, inventor of Chanel’s Cristalle) have launched an unusual collection of subversive signature scents for a new world order: ‘Secretions Magnifiques’, ‘Putain des Palaces’, ‘Jasmin et Cigarette’…. Each perfume has a quirky story attached, and although scents of bodily fluids, say, may not seem immediately attractive, the fragrances are definite growers. Despite the boutique’s rather ordinary mod-esque typography/ décor, the concept and scents are original and interesting. Fragrance dispersers are lined up along the rue des Archives for public appraisal. Inside, the boutique is tiny, black and minimal; a calm post-modern boudoir.

LOUIS VUITTON

Revamped, re-launched and ready to rake in the cash... Louis Vuitton's flagship store on the Champs re-opened in October 2005 to major fanfare. Contemporary artists Olafur Eliasson and Vanessa Beecroft were roped in to redesigning the head-spinning interior. Enter Louis Vuitton world at your peril. More than a few Tokyo-ites have fainted upon crossing the heavily guarded mantel. Monogram yourself to within an inch of your life. The snooty staff will give you the once-over before deigning you worthy of attention. And have your passport ready – Asian LV fans have a two item purchase, max... (It’s common to be offered cash on the street outside to pick up extra items). Not a place to pop into in one’s lunch hour, the store is excruciatingly time-consuming if you actually want to buy something, but fun if you want to gawp at the car-crash LV phenomenon.

CHANEL
Everything in life is better when you’re dressed in Chanel. The thin and fabulous continue to flock to the monochrome boutiques for iconic reworked tweeds, gilt accessories and quilted bags. Vertiginous heels are a must, and skinny-skinny is definitely the order of the day. Karl Lagerfeld keeps coming up trumps for the more Paris-than-Paris brand. Find perfume, killer evening wear, all the hot accessories, the full range of sunglasses and a seriously monied Middle-Eastern clientele at the Avenue Montaigne boutique; Rue Cambon has more of an intimate Coco Chanel feel to it.

QUIDAM DE REVEL

For a riot of first-class vintage, these twin boutiques cannot be missed. Luckily, they’re by appointment only, so hogging the racks is positively encouraged. Owned by a French couple (Philippe is an antiques dealer, Emmanuelle an art historian), the boutique reveals their flair for collecting unique and beautiful pieces from around the world. Everything here is for hire – typically, a wicked weekend away in Courrèges will set you back 180€, or you may find yourself wearing a leading lady’s Grès. Make an appointment, specify your needs, and a personalised selection will be put together for you. On our last visit we spotted quirky 30s evening dresses, show-stopping Dior couture and slinky YSL gowns. The accessories are particularly strong. Popular with cinema and advertising gurus, the Japanese fashion-hunters have the address on lock-down.

MONTAIGNE MARKET

A favourite address for cash-rich, time-poor label lovers for whom zen is found inside the changing room of an Avenue Montaigne boutique. Hunky security guards usher you quietly into the white lacquered, bleached wood emporium, which is situated right next to the 8th’s main fashion players. Liliane Jossua and Alain Celhay have experience internationally as buyers, and the tourist-trap location serves them well. Their multi-brand boutique stocks Temperley, Proenza Schouler, Matthew Williamson, Luella and Zac Posen alongside Me&Ro jewellery and major Jacob&co watches. The pieces are well chosen with a leaning toward the elegant and noir.

REPETTO

The mythical Rue de la Paix boutique is newly renovated with ubiquitous Baccarat chandeliers and large dance studio mirrors. Jeté your way to classic demure style. Brigitte Bardot skipped through Paris in her ballet pumps, and Gainsbourg’s white Repetto lace-ups were as much part of his identity as cigarettes and St Germain. Created in 1947 by Rose Repetto for her dancer son, the soft ballet shoes are perfectly Parisian and available in a rainbow of colours. Even Comme des Garçons have created a model. The dance apparel and shoes are sweetly arranged in circles and the airy, luxe-bohemian vibe will bring out the prima ballerina in even the most leaden-legged of browsers.

MENAGE A TROIS

Opened by 3 friends who spawned their creative collaboration when working together at the Hôtel Amour, our favourite Parisian hang-out, this new boutique combines a love for vintage, kitsch design and fashion. The trio have put together a killer cocktail of a boutique on an off-kilter street in the 9th arrondissement. Spiralled 70s carpet, black walls, leather surrounds, porcelain cheetahs and good/bad-taste mirror art give an idea of the fashion sense here. Lots of florals, heavily glitzed bat-wing tops, bold coloured leather, Argentinian strings, major sunglasses worthy of Nicole Richie and wild prints. And some of the clothes are for hire. A fun address to keep checking in with. The girls want to encourage a chatty, open vibe and we spotted one rather un-vintage boyfriend who didn’t look unhappy sitting on the retro sofa stroking the boutique dog.

Vannina Vesperini

The prestigious 'Creator of the Year' at the Salon International de la Lingerie in 2004 wasn't enough to prove that Vannina Vesperini was back in business, then the opening of this new Paris boutique certainly is. Following the closure of her Right Bank store and the restructuring of her business, the company was relaunched in 2004 and now boasts swanky St Germain digs designed by Francois Murraciole. Vesperini has made a name for herself with her ‘Dessous-Dessus’ concept – making your lingerie a part of your outfit with underwear so chic it needn’t be covered up. Her winter collection dazzled the press with daring halter neck lace bras and coquettish silk hotpants, and more classic elegance in the form of shimmering dusty pink camisoles and corsets crying to be shown off
Didier Ludot

Every fashion week, Didier Ludot, the vintage specialist, gives a young designer the opportunity to display his work among those of the masters of haute couture sold in his famous Palais-Royal boutique. Last year was Zac Posen, and this year the honor goes to Alexis Mabille, stylist for the label Impasse 13 and Treizeor. Mabille, at just 28 years of age, has spent much of his professional career designing at Dior and is known as the king of the bow-tie. His signature couture accessory figures predominately in much of his prêt-a-porter collections, all of which carry a unisex tone that blend the dandy with the rock star. Felix Farrington, antiques and vintage expert, will lend his talents to the scenic display.

For Magazine Addicts

Beside lingerie and clothes I am an addict for magazines. Some may say that I am a bit obsessive over magazines but I describe it as a collector of fine publications. It's the love for discovering new things that keeps me going. Robb Report's newest venture Vertical Living is a magazine that will satisfy your taste and curiosity for high rise and high luxury living. Vertical Living will cover "amazing architecture to ultra-pampering concierge services to spectacular design, interiors, technology and real estate on the market." The photography is breathtaking and the articles are informative. A magazine worth checking out.
