Cris Barros has been quietly working on a plan to capitalize on the burgeoning international interest in Brazilian fashion. In March, the designer opens a gleaming new store across the street from the city's über-chic Fasano Hotel. The flagship shop has been designed by Carolina Maluhy, herself a protégée of Fasano architect Isay Weinfield, and will incorporate the easy luxury that Barros fans like Gisele Bündchen have grown to love. The hard/soft mix of concrete and iron with croc leather and silk velvet will, in a sense, cement her position as one of the country's most sought-after designers. "The Fasano is where all the VIPs from Sao Paulo go for dinner or a drink, and it's the hotel of choice for trendsetters visiting the city. It will be impossible for them to miss our store!"
